As we finish the restoration of the roof and tower to St Luke’s Parish Church, Loughgall, we welcome back a roost of Brown Long Eared Bats. Bats are protected under law and we worked with our expert Dr Caroline Shiels to ensure that we had the correct licences in place to allow the work to proceed.
The restoration was designed and programmed not to impact the bat roost conditions. The Contractor maintained bat entry points, providing additional vents and worked to the strict licence conditions. The work was planned to dovetail with the bat cycle and Dr Shiels has recently confirmed that the bats are roosting and rearing their young. Around the office we have some soprano pipistrelle bats which we are able to enjoy with the help of a simple bat echo finder.
